Regional Identity - TV

Regional Identity - TV

Shameless is set in Manchester, England. This is shown in their accents, which is a strong Manchester accent which gives us the sense of their regional identity. When we see the women we notice that she is wearing middle class kind of clothes and when the camera shows the drunken man outside we see that she lives in a middle class house. We start to question the area, she's lives in, safety as when she starts to say things like ‘no there's nobody there love, go back to bed’ or ‘you can get the baseball bat if you want’ we wonder what there is to be scared of. She then says yes to the drunken man who has asked her to marry here at which we then question whether this is normal where they are for a drunken man to be proposing as in your and i world we would never say yes to someone in that state. Words like ‘bugger’ and ‘dick’ used to describe someone.
Suggesting that people have no manners and are basically scummy.

Regional Identity - Newspaper

'A cannabis factory was located inside the property and investigations are still on-going.'

This is a negative representation of Bedworth as in this newspaper the only story related to Bedworth is about illegal drugs. This makes Bedworth out to be a bad place filled with drugs when obviously there are going to be a minority of drug dealers there

Newspapers

The language has restricted code as it is aimed at working class and their language isn't as elaborated as middle class, another indicator of this would be that the paper is only 50p which is a very cheap price. the Target audience is the working class. Aged 20-55. this links to the political party related to this party being labour as they are supposed to be working to make working class people better off.

The visual codes featured in this story mainly is the picture of David Cameron looking very smug showing he doesn't really care about the working class families having to pay. Another code is the amount of money is the colour red and red typically means danger. Colloquial Language – This can being interpreted as ‘slang’ or words that may be abbreviated

This newspaper will focus on putting the labour party in a good light so that the people vote for them over the conservative party. so they are making the leader of the conservative party look bad.
