Media Choice - I have chosen to do a CD cover, this CD cover will follow a theme which is to do with my chosen genre, this is indie rock. I need to attract audiences into buying my music, as each genre of music attracts a different kind of audience, therefore my album cover will be used to entice my chosen target audience according to my genre. Representation Task - TV Show - Gender

Representation Task - TV Show - Gender

The Big Bang Theory is America's highest rated comedy. It is regularly E4's most watched show on our side of the Atlantic and can definitely be said to divide opinion. Is it funny or just plain stupid? Does it laugh at nerd culture or with it? And is it sexist or not?

The programme bases itself entirely on stereotypes in a huge number of ways and given its subject matter, a lot of these are drawn from those typically found in the sci-fi/fantasy genre; a world in which historically the men are the heroes and the woman are skimpily-clothed and more than slightly helpless.

"The women of the show are constantly sexualised, a major issue in sci-fi and fantasy which has been highlighted by groups like The Hawkeye Initiative. Particularly in the earlier seasons, Penny seems to be portrayed as the archetypal "helpless blonde bimbo" needing to be saved from her pedestrian life by our oh-so-intelligent lead characters. For quite a while she has virtually no character besides being hot and not very academic when compared to the hoards of scientists that populate the show. After six seasons she still doesn't even have a last name! Penny is the clearest example of the programme objectifying women, though in no way is the practise limited to her. All four of the main characters (though particularly Howard) have very cavalier attitudes towards dating, with it made clear that sex is often the main goals of these adventures." Representation Task - Newspaper - Class

How is class represented in newspapers

I have found an article on the Daily Mail website, this article is titled  Royal Family helps UK tourism
this article is basically all about how great the royal family are. The article also includes figures on how much money via tourism the royal family brings in. All the things said in this article are good, positive remarks about the family and what they do for this country, i think this may be influenced by the fact the royal family is a representation of the country. Most people would say that they like the Royal family this means that the article will be popular with majority of the public. due to this if any form of media had a negative representation then the majority of the British public would dislike this and the newspaper would receive hate.
The Daily Mail is run by conservatives meaning they are linked with the royal family and want to be on the family's good side.

Magazine Front Cover Task

Magazine Front Cover Task

The red ‘Q’ sign highlights that this is the front cover of a highly popular music magazine which is distributed across the UK monthly. On this cover the main image is a image of the Arctic Monkeys who are a well known indie rock band from the UK, with the magazine being published in UK and this band being from the UK many people in the UK may look up to this band and be inspired by their work and how they have gotten so big, they are a global success. This helps the magazine get more readers as people in the UK more often then not, really like the Arctic Monkeys and the music they produce. The magazine also features articles about different bands which themselves have different genres the helps the magazine gain readers as some people may not necessary be interested in the Arctic Monkeys but may be interested in the other artists that feature on this issue of 'Q' such as Arcade Fire , Green Day, Nirvana,  Haim and Rizzle Kicks. This is so that the magazine can attract more readers. The big bright red logo of 'Q' magazine is a indicator of what magazine it is this can be used so that regular readers of 'Q' can locate this magazine easily on a shelve filled with other magazines. Also with this issue being a 17 page collectors special with rare photos will encourage collectors and other readers to buy the magazine. The date which is located in the bottom right hand corner allows people to keep up to date with the magazines but allows collectors to keep all magazines in order.
The target audience for 'Q' magazine is typically people who have a strong interest in music and are aged around 20-45, of both genders. With the magazine being aimed at a generally older audience in comparison to other magazines for example 'Sugar'. The fact that the target audience us slightly older means that the magazine can be a bit more expensive than if it was aimed at just young people as the majority of older people have paid jobs or have money to spare. Also with this audience it allows the magazine to be able to contain more information and can overall write what it wants. The magazine has a very large audience as it is a popular magazine and is suited to all music lovers.
