Regional Identity - TV
Shameless is set in Manchester, England. This is shown in their accents, which is a strong Manchester accent which gives us the sense of their regional identity. When we see the women we notice that she is wearing middle class kind of clothes and when the camera shows the drunken man outside we see that she lives in a middle class house. We start to question the area, she's lives in, safety as when she starts to say things like ‘no there's nobody there love, go back to bed’ or ‘you can get the baseball bat if you want’ we wonder what there is to be scared of. She then says yes to the drunken man who has asked her to marry here at which we then question whether this is normal where they are for a drunken man to be proposing as in your and i world we would never say yes to someone in that state. Words like ‘bugger’ and ‘dick’ used to describe someone.
Suggesting that people have no manners and are basically scummy.

Regional Identity - Newspaper
'A cannabis factory was located inside the property and investigations are still on-going.'
This is a negative representation of Bedworth as in this newspaper the only story related to Bedworth is about illegal drugs. This makes Bedworth out to be a bad place filled with drugs when obviously there are going to be a minority of drug dealers there

This newspaper will focus on putting the labour party in a good light so that the people vote for them over the conservative party. so they are making the leader of the conservative party look bad.

Portrayals in the media of Race
Negative - Straight Outta Compton NWA - The Black Males in this movie are considered gangsters were are up to no good and are also in large conflict with the police of Compton.
This image is taken straight from the movie and as you can see there is a tipped police car with a gang of black people smashing up the vehicle
Positive - The Simpsons - Male black doctor, this is showing that he is well educated and caring for people which is a positive representation of black people
Differences - Obviously the doctor from Simpsons isn't dangerous whereas in the film black people are represented as dangerous/ violent. The doctor is well educated and friendly and the gangsters are pretty much the opposite

ETHNIC GROUPS IN MUSIC
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation.
A Clip from this trailer shows the police telling the group that they are no longer permitted
to play their song 'F the police'. At their next concert they say 'they trying to tell us what we cant play'. They then play their song even though the police have told them they arn't allowed. This is supporting the stereotype of black males not having respect for the police and generally showing they don't listen to police. Showing that there is conflict between the police and black communities
Context: In Compton (1980s). There is a lot of conflict between the police and the people of Compton. Riots and rebellion across the entire city. In the trailer it showing burning vehicles and graffiti on the walls saying 'F the police'. Their song that was very popular was said to further influence the black people to go against the police as it highlights many of the tensions between black urban youth and the police. The song was prophetic in its reading the widespread resentment towards the police that later boiled over in the 1992 Los Angeles riots following the Rodney King incident. The song also alleged that blacks in the police were worse than the whites. Shown in their lyrics; "so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority". They used the polices threats on them to further influence the black people as they told their fans that the police are trying to control them and not giving them freedom they deserve.
This can be linked to the modern-day as in the summer we had the Ferguson riot this was An ongoing series of protests and civil disorder began the day after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown on August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri. The unrest sparked a vigorous debate about law enforcement's relationship with African-Americans, and police use of force doctrine in Missouri and nationwide.

This Girl Can
This Girl Can
In this video women are not being represented because of how attractive they are but rather represents them as powerful, showing they do whatever they want. As this image is captioned 'deal with it'. Saying anyone who is against us just have to deal with it because they are going to do it whether people mind or not, they are going to keep on doing the sport and don't care what people have to say about it. The advert is telling us that women of all shapes and sizes have the right to do sport and feel good about themselves. With the image of the women readjusting her swimming trunks there is a cultural reference to a David Beckham advert in which he was very much sexualised and objectified, but in this case we are not objectifying the female, it's just showing a female doing the sport that she loves. The advert is telling women not to be ashamed of their bodies, they don't need a size 0 figure to be able to enjoy sport activities. Another cultural reference the fact that the video is shows us all different kinds of females in Britain relation to the racial diversity we have in the country. This is also sending the message that you can do whatever you want. It doesn't matter what size, race or class you are.
Most of the camera angles used are close ups of the females face showing their emotions; their dedication, passion and the pain they go through.
